Summary
A Crura is usually a spined, many legged demon with a bad attitude.
They don't usually have family names, but sometimes they add a missing or dead loved one's name to their own as a sign of honor.
Females, being the ones that take care of hatchlings, were once thought to be larger than the males, but they actually only get bigger because the males generally kill each other fighting among themselves. Young ones fight all the time and sometimes even injure or kill one another, though they frequently pick on small or mutated hatchlings a lot.
Often they have designs on their faces, and rarely the markings spread across their body.
Most start with a natural skill for Fire, Water, Earth, or Air magic, but they can learn other types. Very occasionally they start out with certain abilities, like invisibility or prophetic visions.
Also, some are born with a connection to one of the Seven Deadly Sins. So yes, a Crura could be a Pride demon and consider itself the best thing in the world.
No one knows how long they live, as none have died of old age before they died of another cause.
General Appearance
Crurari look like some combination of cats, wolves, and dragons, occasionally with a touch of spider. Their coloration is almost always black, white, and/or shades of grey. Off-white, off-black, dusty brown, greyish/very dark blue, rusty or dark red, and sandy tans are also colors that can occur. Their spines are almost always a different shade than the rest of them. They occasionally have shading or stripes on their body or spines. Though it's usually red or pink, the color of their insides can be other colors (yes, the can have glowing cyan or pitch black mouths.) Some things vary between Crurari, such as markings (it's very rare for two to have the same markings), coloration, and attitude, though most are easily offended and fight constantly, and whether they are shiny or not. Eyes come in any color, including black, white, and grey, any brightness, and can even glow. Pretty much, the eyes can look however you want.
Growing Limbs
They usually hatch with one pair of legs, front legs or back legs, and a tail. Every 100 years, from most common to least common, they grow front legs (most common), a tail (uncommon), back legs (Uncommon), wings (very rare), or a head (slightly rarer than wings).
Family
Mothers are very protective of children, fathers less so. Siblings are often very close and sometimes fight in teams.
Society
There used to be lots of small settlements, each one with a different style of names, but now they're all mashed up into this huge, spread out web of tiny communities. Most communities has an elder, but the oldest Crura of them all, who usually has the most limbs, is the king or queen of all of them. If a Crura wants to be ruler, they have to kill all Crurari older than them. If many Crurari don't like the current king or queen, they can band together to kill him or her. And thaaat's politics!
Mutations
Sometimes, when a Crura is developing, before or after hatching, they don't come out quite right. Here are the ones currently known about.
- Sometimes limbs are stunted, especially if the Crura isn't healthy when the limbs start growing.
- This isn't really a mutation, but there are specific traits that occur in some Crurari and not in others. Some of these are spines on the tail, venom, and one that's rare, spines running down the back.
- VERY rarely, instead or along with their greys, they have a bright color on them, and SUPER rarely they have multiple colors.
- Occasionally a Crura is born without any limbs, and though they start growing limbs like normal in 100 years, they stay abnormally small their whole life.
